Welcome to the Family of God
Baptism is the first of the three Sacrament of Christian Initiation, along with the Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. Through Baptism, we are freed from original sin, become adopted sons and daughters of God, receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, and are welcomed into the Catholic Church.
Jesus entrusted this sacrament to His Church when He said, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
Baptism marks the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith. It is through this sacrament that we become members of the Body of Christ and begin our life as Christians.
Infant Baptism
St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish joyfully welcomes families seeking Baptism for their children. Parents requesting Baptism are asked to contact the parish office to begin the process and schedule the sacrament. Becoming a member of the parish is required to receive the sacrament.
Parents accept the responsibility of raising their child in the Catholic faith by participating regularly in the Mass, teaching their child to pray, and provide an example of Christian living.
Godparents
Every child being baptized should have at least one godparent who is a fully initiated, practicing Catholic. Godparents are called to support the parents in helping the child grow in faith and to serve as lifelong spiritual role models.
Baptism for Older Children and Adults
Older children and adults who wish to be baptized are warmly welcomed into the Church through age-appropriate preparation. Adults typically prepare through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), while school-age children participate in a formation process designed for their age and level of faith development.
Scheduling a Baptism
To arrange a Baptism or to learn more about the process, please contact the parish office at office@stmkp.org, or call 860 283 5817. We look forward to celebrating this joyful occasion with you and your family as you begin a lifelong journey of faith in Jesus Christ.
