The ministry of the Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion is a sacred and privileged service to the Catholic Church. Extraordinary Ministers assist the priest and deacon in the reverent distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during the celebration of the Holy Mass when needed. They may also bring Holy Communion to the sick, homebound, and those in hospitals or nursing facilities, extending the love and presence of Christ to those unable to gather with the parish community.
At St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, our Extraordinary Ministers serve with humility, reverence, and deep faith in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. Their ministry reflects the Church’s mission of charity and communion, ensuring that all the faithful may receive the Lord with dignity and devotion.
The ministry is open to practicing Catholics who have received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation, are living in harmony with the teachings of the Catholic Church, and are registered, active members of the parish. Extraordinary Ministers are commissioned according to the norms of the Archdiocese of Hartford and receive formation and training before beginning their service.
Those who bring Holy Communion to the sick and homebound provide not only the Blessed Sacrament but also a compassionate presence, reminding those that they visit that they remain a cherished part of our parish family. This beautiful ministry is an expression of Christ’s care for all His people.
If you feel called to serve as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, or if you or a loved one is unable to attend Mass and would like to receive Holy Communion at home, please contact the parish office at 860 283 5817 or email office@stmkp.org. We would be honored to assist you.
